Southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A very rare wheel-thrown terracotta thymiaterion (or incense burner) which boasts an elegant chalice-form body and lovely orange-on-cream banded details. It has a ringed foot, a tall and thin neck, a wide incense dish with a shallow interior cavity, and a collared rim with a register of orange tab-shaped adornments.. Provenance: Herakles Numismatik und Antiquitäten GmbH (München), who acquired it on the European art market since the 1970s; from 2000s
