Description:
VIII-VI century B.C. white chalcedony glazed composition clenched right fist, pierced for suspension at the wrist.
During the Old Kingdom and First Intermediate Period, small amulets of hands and feet were commonly included in bracelets and anklets. These amulets protected the limbs and extremities of their wearers, while possibly conferring abilities such as dexterity, creative potential, or speed. The fist and hand amulets probably derive from magical protective gestures. These amulets were commonly made of carnelian or faience.
