Predinastic/Old Kingdom, 3rd-2nd millennium BC. A fine grained alabaster vessel with globular body, short cylindrical neck and slightly flaring rim, flat circular base. Property of a North London gentleman; ex Pars Antiques, London, 1980-1990s.
Cosmetic articles were very important in Egyptian households. Scenes showing elaborate vases and spoons for ointments and perfumes were depicted in tomb paintings and actual artefacts have been found in tombs and elsewhere.
